Ice Cream Month #3: Good Earth Grains & Creamery

23 S. Main Street
Coopersburg, PA  18036

Summer Hours:
Monday-Friday 10am-10pm
Saturday-Sunday 7am-10pm

In the heart of small downtown Coopersburg, Good Earth Grains & Creamery is enhancing community life.  Partial to this historic country store because of its short walking distance from my house, I have come to appreciate what this brings to local residents.

Serving 32 flavors of Nelson’s ice cream, you’ll be sure to enjoy the fresh, creamy taste of this local “straight from the cow” dessert.  View their website to receive more history of this local, family-owned business established in 1916.  This operation excelled in spite of the Great Depression and maintains the same process since the 1950’s.  Receiving recent publicity, it’s PA Dutch motto, “Nix Besser” (nothing better) has heightened the expectation of their product.  Do you agree?  Be sure to come to Good Earth to cast your vote.

My vote for VIP employee: my mom
Beyond the 32 flavors, which include some unique and personal preferences (Graham Slam, Cinnamon Caramel Swirl, Banana Fudge, and unforgettable versions of Moose tracks and pistachio), they offer some sherbet, water ice and yogurt options.  Their menu now includes milkshakes, sundaes and toppings. I haven’t tried the hot fudge, but have heard raving reviews.    Good Earth’s assets include:
  • Outdoor seating, where you are sure to run into a neighborhood friend,
  • Accessibility for Coopersburg residents (it brings my heart delight to watch people walking up and down Main Street with a cone in hand!);
  • Complimentary sprinkles, cow-shapes or rainbow
  • Their Penn State-Lehigh Valley Campus flavor—sweet cream ice cream with blueberry swirl and chocolate chips—a celebration of the Penn State Creamery, who trained the Nelson’s.
  • Family-friendly prices, some of the most affordable in the area!
Not to mention the other aspects of their store:
  • Be sure to stop in on a Saturday or Sunday morning for Emmaus Bakery Donuts & Sticky Buns (AMAZING!), with a cup of delicious hot coffee, tea or other assorted hot beverages
  • They offer bulk supply of various candy, spices, grains, flours, beans, dried fruits and more.  This has become my stopping point for these items.  For gluten-free and organic shoppers, they have a great selection.  View their website for full details about products.  Better yet, be sure to stop in.

Are you doing your part to support a local business?  Don’t miss out on this community-friendly sweet stop!

  5. My fav is pistashio, but it wasn't there the last time we went so I got Raspberry Cheesecake...delicious. Steve gota mixture of cappucino crunch and an almond flavor (although he does also like mixing the cappucino with coconut).

Also, love the Almond Butter, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Ground Flax, great prices on whole cloves and also love the great selection of raw seeds...oh and it's nice to stop by on a Saturday morning and get the Homestead coffee before work!
